I recently got a 72 convertible, all original with factory alarm. There is a disconnected cable that looks like a speedometer cable, going into the cabin and is hanging down on the drivers floor.
I traced the cable and it goes to the alarm horn. What does it do, and where should I connect the end that is inside the car?
That is probably the antenna cable. The alarm is nothing but electrical wires.
Thanks, but it is not antenna. It's like speedometer cable or some hood release cable with a metal spiral wound exterior and an inner wire. After posting this I looked at it again, and it is actually attached to a control on the alarm that could be moved back and forth by the cable.
So, apparently it is connected somewhere behind or near the vacuum hose connection (under the dash below the steering wheel) for the pop-up windshield wiper cover.
Could it have been a shut-off or loudness control for the alarm?

Definitely not factory. The only thing under there with the spiral casing is the speedo, tach and the trip odometer reset cable (which is beside the wiper / light override vacuum switches)
The horn is just a straight trumpet, power and ground wires, no adjustments or controls

Picture attached. The cable is going to the lever/switch shown on the rear of that red alarm dome
Well, that might explain why my horn doesn't work. I think that is the brand, although the one on my car is probably 20 - 30 years old. I guess the cable changes the setting on the horn -from what to what I don't know. Animal sounds maybe
