Dial Bore Gauge and Mic's for engine work
Planning out my engine work to come ('72 454) and looking at getting a dial bore gauge and micrometers. What do you all use... brand, sizes, etc? I was thinking a 2-6" dial bore gauge, 2-3" mic, 4-5" mic would cover it? Want reliable/accurate of course but not overspend if I don't have to.

Amazon has a nice selection of what you are looking for. I recommend mics that include standards (masters) or gauge blocks so you can set up your dial bore gauge. 454 = 4.250" bore dia. plus over boring if needed. I use a Shars dial bore gauge (made in China) it was affordable. Mics I have Mitutoyo & Browne & Sharpe gauge blocks. Good luck.

Check Enco, KBC tools, Amazon, Ebay....if you buy used make sure it checks out on the standard gauges in the set. Mitioyo, Brown&Sharp, Fowler, SPI and Startett are some of the better brands. I don't use Chinese for measuring engine builds.
