Hi all, thinking real hard of getting a stock CE. I know they came rated from the factory @ 200HP. Any thoughts on what I can do to get the HP up without any major engine rebuild? I'm sure headers would help. What else? Thanks.
Possibly not. The 81s and 82s have what amount to short tube headers as stock. These are stainless steel. Converting to dual exhaust would help but could be an issue if the car will require emissions testing.

Yes, you can get an easy 300 horsepower by installing a '85 fuel pump set at 14 psi, installing a better camshaft or around 215-218 degrees duration, and a Renegade intake manifold. But the best gain comes from a set of 3.73's as they'll give you much better all-around performance and still retain decent fuel mileage.
I see; I should be ok with the duals here in TX since the 82s are older than 25 years old and last I looked there is no emissions testing is required after that. Would long tube headers do much more?
toobroketoretire, 300hp sounds nice. That's about where I'd like to be if I get it. I hear you on the cam and stuff; I'd have to be patient on that until I finish up some other projects if I go that route. Thanks. for the feedback.
The first real improvement that IMO was the best bang for the buck was installing the hypertec stage 1 prom. It really woke the car up, smoothed it out and makes the transmission behave!

Ok, I hear you on the chip. I think that and duals would get me through next year for now if I get the car. Any other thoughts are appreciated.
kn filter , 1,6 rollertip , 85type fuel pump , try 10 deg timing , 13 psi fuel pressure , better catback ------ not happy ? then port or cange manifoil , new cam , new heads , long tube headers , Eckler's, Summit, Eddie Motorsports are selling renegarde manifoil !! pics of my ported manifoil in my album !!

Ok a cross fire motor. We used to call them backfire injection as performance was limited and injection problematic. Welcome to fuel injection - hope u wont miss a carburetor. Ihe word here is the stock crossfire intake is what limits the power the most on those cars. DCS made a performance intake "renegade" for that crossfire injection but i heard their not in business now though i see their w/s is still up: http://crossfireinjection.net/renegade.htm. I guess what im saying is that if u what significant performance and want EFI (like your other cars) then you should look into obtaining a renegade intake before purchasing the car.
Stick with an 1980 or older C3, much easier to tune with no computer controlled ignition or carb! Best thing I did to my 84 crossfire was to convert it to a carb set up and add dart heads, isky solid cam and a points distributor.

Interesting... just was on Hypertech's site and they don't list a prom for an '82. Have a part number by chance?

Hope this helps.
Summit show they still sell the Renegade made by Eddie Motorsports.

Thats awesome. Hope they can obtain enough to supply the market. DCS was forced to sell them on small production run basis. This is from the DCS w/s: COMPANY UPDATE...WELL, THE TIME HAS COME. DCS IS SHUTTING DOWN AND MAY NOT BE REOPENING AGAIN. THANKS TO ALL THAT MADE US A SUCCESS FOR THE LAST 7.5 YEARS.
Update: 5-22-15
NOTE: Just to let customers know, Eckler's, Summit and now Eddie Motorsports are still selling our manifold and available if you would still like to purchase one. These will remain available until we pull our tooling from the company. Get one while you can. Unfortunately it has taken much longer than anticipated to reorg the company.
Gett'm while u can. Dont know who will end up with the tooling. Wish i knew where the LT1 SuperRam intake tooling ended up?

The stock CrossFire manifold lays down and dies at 4000 rpm but a Renegade will allow 6000 rpm operation IF you're running an '85 fuel pump.
