Default aftermarket exhaust

I have a 69 427 coupe, very original down to the exhaust, shocks etc. I would however like to save the original exhaust and perhaps install an aftermarket exhaust with a little growl to it. I listened to a Flowmaster on You Tube, sounded good. Any other ones you might recommend?

Thanks, but the car is very original. I guess I will buy the Flowmaster 50 series from the crossmember back. I don't want to cut the exhaust up, just remove it and save it. Interesting these 427's only have a 2 inch system.

Have you considered an exhaust system such as
http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/1969-c...st-system.html

and if like a little more growl maybe the N-11 "off-road" mufflers?

Another option is the Stainless steel chambered exhausts, they have a real nice growl to them

I have the Flowmaster C3 exhaust. It is not a direct fit as advertised. When I called Flowmaster to order parts required as per their instructions. I was told that Flowmaster did not make them anymore. When I complained that the exhaust was advertised as direct fit, the rep blamed me and eventually hung up on me. The front pipes need to extend past the cross member to connect. I ordered custom length SS front pipes from Allens Stainless Exhaust. Allens makes complete systems with several different options and have great customer service.

I'm assuming you have 2 1/2 inch exhaust, these I use on a high compression small block and sound nice with an x pipe.

I have the allens stainless chambered system on my 69 2 1/2" all the way through. Its got plenty of growl. I also like all the room you get back by the spare tire carrier since the mufflers are only 3" in diameter. The internal diameter of the chambers are 2 1/2".

If you want 2 1/2" through and through then you need to speak to allens. I would suggest dropping and keeping ALL of your old pipes if you want 2 1/2". You want to get either the 2 1/2" riser or the cheaper 2 1/2" spacer to keep it simple.

Then allens will fit you up with 65-67 2 1/2" manifold pipes, intermediate integrated muffler pipes, 2 1/2" mufflers and then he can make you up 2 1/2" stainless tips. (you will also want to get a 2 1/2" transmission mount pipe hanger). http://www.zip-corvette.com/catalog/...anger-bracket/

If your not interested in dropping the whole system then just stick with the 2" system all the way out from the trans crossmember. Probably the most economical and least problematic so as not to break manifold bolts or disturb to much. Doesnt seem your out for performance ... mostly sound. The chambers will still be plenty loud for you at 2".

Thanks to all of you for responding as always "some assembly required" to all these systems that are not fitting as they are advertised. My mech is really super at exhaust and I hope he can have these fit without to much grief. We shall see

Default Allen's

I just today ordered a 2 1/2 chambered system thru Allens. Spoke with Mike himself and he was very helpful. Told him I was ordering a Hooker super-comp header and he said he would make sure that the system I got would work with this header. If you order the system thru fleabay you get the stainless system for the price of the aluminized. Great deal! I'll let you guys know how the install goes and most importantly how it sounds when it's installed
