I took the tranny pan off to replace the gasket and am wondering if i should put a shift kit in? Are they hard to put in? And which ones do you recommend? Do shift kits really make a noticable difference?
I like the transgo kit. It will provide for much firmer shifting and less heat generated from "soft" oem shifting. Some people dont like the firm shifts it creates, suggest if you do go with it start off with the softest shifting options. By drilling out certain holes in the valve plate you get harder shifts. Instructions come with the kit.
It may not be the most comprehensive shift kit available, but I really like it and at ~$25 plus ~$12 for an adjustable vacuum modulator, it made a tremendous difference in my car :yesnod:
I went with the B&M Kit and used the Street/Strip setup and was really impressed with the difference. Barks the tires now on the 1-2 shift and is really quick on the 2-3 shift.
Did this on the TH350C tranny.
DO IT you will be pleased
Go with a shift kit. If the kit you choose gives you an option like towing or street strip, go with the more agressive street strip. Its actually better for long tranny life to have quicker shifts with less clutch slippage. More fun to drive too. :D
