Looking around for a leak is the first thing you should do. All down the passenger side. If it happens only with a full tank, look down the drivers side. There's a small 1/4 line running from the charcoal canister under the washer fluid bottle. That is the vent for the gas tank. They often rust out and any liquid fuel entering the line usually drips a little giving off the fuel odor. I never fixed mine but I don't top the tank off like I use too.
