Some more info. I crawled under the car and scraped more of the bondo off. The block appears to have been repaired (welded). Not sure why the person was so determined to cover it up. The bondo just makes it more suspicious. My plans are to drop a crate motor in it in a year or two so as long as it lasts me until then I'll be happy.
You joke but it takes a long time for some engines to heat the oil(longer than the coolant), you can tell it's warm when the pressure drops some if you don't have a temp gauge. When my c3 ran cooler it would take 30 mins for the pressure to drop on a 45-50mph cruise and that exhaust crosses over under the oil pan. My c4 you can watch the oil temp drop on the highway. My drag foxbody with a sbc warms fast but one of the header pipes runs right by the oil filter, so that saves me the trouble of an oil pre-heater. Oil has an ideal temp range and you can be over or under.

Just FYI
This all makes some sense to me and might have been of some value to me when I lived in Denver with it's cold winter mornings. But now, in San Diego with a big block, cool oil has never been a problem. Thanks for the education anyway.

I don't drive my cars in winter and even in 80-90 deg summer weather it takes pretty much the same for my cars.
