Default rewire job

OK fellas, ladies.. I've got a 73 vette I bought , cheap.. It was in a fire. I have everything finished except wiring... And of course there isn't a new wiring harness to go by to rewire it. Is there a harness I can buy, from motor to tail lights? Or do I have to rewire it all individualy? Also, is there a website anywhere that has pics of the wiring procedure? Thanks. A bit of info about me.. I was a GM mescahnic for 12 years.. But wiring was not my specialty. And on nothing of this year. Was a mechanic up until 3 years ago.

What? I am sure there is a wiring harness available for your car?

Are you serious?

there are replacement harnesses available for these cars if your pockets are that deep, there are aftermarket harnesses available from several companies that you will have to make it work.

Vette magazine was running a series on rewiring a 72 in their July and August issues for this year. May offer some tips.

Request catalogs from Corvette Central, Wilcox, etc.

If "wiring was not your specialty" you need to purchase new...trust me. There are separate harnesses for front lights, engine, dash, and rear lights. The most complicated is the dash which has the fuse box.

Which part of the car burned?

Depending on your starting point and what you're trying to achieve, infinity box (formerly ISIS power - unfortunately named, lol) may be a viable option.

Go with the factory style harnesses. Get the Doc rebuild laminated wiring harness diagrams (there are 2 of them) http://docrebuild.com/oosoez.html.

The AIM for you car is also great for routing of wiring and location of relays and switches. http://www.zip-corvette.com/books-ma...y-manuals.html

You can also consult the forum here for pictures of folks doing their dash harnesses. The dash is the worst... you need to figure out the proper routing for things but its doable. There are also relays and such you will need if the car interior was destroyed by the fire but you can get every part.

If you were a mechanic then you can easily install these. Just takes patience and time (especially in the dash area).

Lectric limited is awesome. I got mine from corvette central 7 yrs ago. I paid $1145 for everything. Mine had both fiber optics so its more money. ZIP has packages for $1230 http://www.zip-corvette.com/search/c...wiring+harness

Forward lamps
Ignition / engine harness
DASH main harness (with or without AC) (by fare the most expensive and complex)
power window harness (if you have them)
Rear harness
There is also an alarm harnesses.

another option, the one I choice,
I also had a burnt car with missing harness.
I found a late 70's C3 with complete harness in excellent condition, that was carefully removed,
keeping connectors with harness, you will have to make some modifications, depending upon the years.
this way when your done you have factory fuse box, and it appears original.
if you go this direction you need to fully inspect and repair as needed.
good luck

must have the following;
Front lights
engine harness
DASH main harness with Fuse box.
rear harness
Ac/Heat harness

optional/plug in -GM harness

alarm, power window, power locks, Stereo speakers

I think this thread really answers all the original posters questions. I have mostly all Lectric Limited harnesses, have bought some M&H harnesses also. Gotta get that Dr Rebuild liminated color schematic with photos of the actual connectors.
