The wipers on my '75 don't work right. They will turn on and work, no problem, but when I turn them off, they don't park - they just stop whereever they were when I turned the switch off. Then I can't get them to move again until I pull the 3 wire connection out of the wiper assembly under the hood. When I plug it back in, they park.
I believe the switch is working correctly, as the outer wires on the 3-wire plug do gound/not ground as I move the switch to different positions, and the middle wire is always hot.
Is there a relay somewhere that is bad? Where would it be? I think I remember a post awhile back about someone cleaning their relay and the wipers started working again, but I couldn't find it.
As simple as they appear, wiper motors are faily complex so that they will park. There is a park switch inside the unit that fails. This switch breaks the ground in the correct spot so the wipers continue to travel into the "depressed" park position. I have tried on several occasions to fix them without much success. There is a complete rebuild procedure in the factory service manuals. Almost all of the wiper motors used on C-3's are very similar. I might be easier just to buy another unit from a quailty source. The relays and vacuum switches are common to 68-72's with the door over the wipers. 75 is just like a lots of standard Chevy's when it come to wiper motors although it must be the depressed park version.
