Have fun on your trip AJ. I drove my 65 from Florida to Texas and the one thing that bothered me was the skinny steering wheel. It caused my hands to cramp up. I did the trip nonstop and Im sure that contributed to the problem.

Have fun. Drove mine from Eden NY to El Paso Tx. El Paso to Colorado Springs Co. Then from there back to Ft Belvoir Va. Man the big block sure was thirsty along the way.

Syracues to San Diego
I have made the round trip twice. The first time with no spare tire, Pam would not let me go the the second time without it.
Next time I will have the AC working, the new Sanden compressor works well. If we ever get summer here in central New York I can test it.

Sounds like a great trip I drove all the way out to California back in 2000 in an 87 coupe. I did some long stretches of Route 66. More recently I did the Tail of The Dragon in a newer Vette. You will enjoy it. Try the Cherohala Skyway while you are in that area. Very nice. I also did the Blue Ridge Parkway. What a road that is.
You will love the Corvette Museum. A tour of the Assembly Plant is also worth taking.

And a roll of wide painters masking tape and clear packing tape. Good for those days when its raining and the wife is P/O'd that water is dripping on her from the t-tops.
Packing tape will help if you get a small split in a vac line.
Take a package of plastic zip ties as well, ya never know.
Take a roll of fine wire as well, it'll help hold up a exhaust part if needed.

Good luck on the trip. I am sure she will hold up.
Don't give into punks trying race you on the highway.
Test yer wipers. I don't think I have flipped my switch to on position in 5 years. I was told C3 Vette's will melt when it rains. So, I have never needed them.

AJ - The wife and I recently did the museum and factory tour. I was a little disappointed with the museum but was overwhelmed with the factory tour. One good thing about the museum is getting to see all of the C7 deliveries lined up for new owners.
Leave your checkbook at home. Seeing the new C7s at the museum and then going to the factory is a tempting combination for a new car purchase.
I was surprised to see just how many of the C7s on line were Z06s. I went though in Jan and about 1 in 6 on the line were Zs.
A pleasant side trip in the private muscle car collection across the street from the museum. It is worth the small entry fee. Every car in the collection was priced and several seemed reasonable.
Enjoy the trip!

Watching a rerun of americarna they just told the story of a 67 L88 corvette that drove 1600 miles to Sebring ran the 24 HR ra e came in second behind the Owens Corning car then drove 1600 miles home. These cars were built much tougher than people think.

That would have been a hell of a road trip in an L88!
Thanks for all of the comments, I will keep the thread updated with pics and vids each night of the trip for anyone interested. We leave out Tuesday at 4 am, gonna try to make it to Memphis by Tuesday night, that's about 11 hrs from us so its gonna be a thrash the first day. We rented a townhouse with a garage for the first night in Memphis that is 3 blocks from Bealle st downtown so we can go party a bit and have the car locked up inside..

I Think that is great. Yes post pics and vids. it is good so see someone drive a classic car across country. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to drive the early 70s corvette in the early 70s when the corvette was regularly driven. Just as an earlier poster said a well maintained "old" vehicle can go for long distances. As for the corvette, if it is in not so good condition it would probably still go the distance. You should check out the Road Kill episode (it's on You Tube) where a basket case 75 corvette was driven from Florida to the corvette museum. They had to dog the vette before it finally gave out. A testament to when the US put out real cars. If you haven't seen this episode, you'll get a laugh.

Old Fart Pilot
Between '79 and '89, I drove my daily driver '71 coupe on numerous trips while moving. The first was from NH down to Miami and then over to San Antonio. The second was from TX to central CA and the third was from CA to OH. Ended up having to trailer it from OH back to NH due to a broken transverse spring with no time to replace. She was stored in NH for the next 23 years. Granted, the car was a lot younger then (hell, so was I!), but she did just fine. Even with no AC and only a 4-speed, I enjoyed the heck out of all of those trips! She's currently in pieces in my garage and basement in WA undergoing my first body off restoration attempt. Hopefully we'll be able to take another road trip somewhat like yours in the future!
Have fun!,
