I drove my 71 all year from March to Dec, there were no issues.
My friends father had a 69 (427 / 400) and he drove it every day, 365 / 24-7 as it was his car.
Every year he drove from L.I. N.Y. to Texas for his meeting / class - he was afraid to fly. He had the car for 5+ years.

They were cars back then.
He would put snow tires on it in the winter and drive to work.
He also had a trailer hitch on the vette as his wife would not let him put it on her car.
I had a 68 RAIII Firebird that I drove every day. My friend had a 442, Tom had a 69 Camaro, Al had a 383 Cuda - we all drove them every day.
They were not collector cars back then.

Hell I'll drive mine in the rain now. They're cars, not pieces of fine art.
I probably have a different view of cars then most of the purists here. I drive it, I race it, I road trip it, I do donuts in parking lots and 100' long burn outs. I'm a purist's/show car dweeb's worst nightmare.

I love road trips in my Corvette and have taken many and never have had any problems on them. I did VA to Houston TX before and made the side trip to the Tail of the Dragon in 2008. I CA to TX trip and a few between TX and UT. I always get lots of waves and people at fuel stations coming over to look at the car. In the 18 years that I have had my Corvette I have had one flat tire and it was in my garage. I don’t leave the spare in the car except on long road trips. I like the idea of using the tub as tool storage and taking plug and pump.
The only downside to the vette on log road trips is no overdrive and the noise makes me tired quicker and the car is really hard to keep at a consistent speed so a lot of focus to maintain a set speed.
One other thing on my Corvette road trips is I keep having to stop and wash the car.
Have fun on the trip and watch out for all the crazy motorcycles on the tail of the dragon.

Never drove any of my Corvettes cross-country, but I have made the trip in an SS 545 Chevelle in the winter of 1973, and once in a surplus mail truck with a chryser slant 6. Let's not forget the two trips I made in a VW bug, and once with 3 pals in a 1951 Ford. And, once in a Pinto wagon.
Please don't ask why I made so many trips, otherwise I will begin cursing the evil witch I was married to at the time.

I agree if the cars in good shape there is no reason to not drive an old car they did it before they can do it again.

We will be taking our '74 down Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica at the end of September. I'm working on finishing the restoration right now as I write this (I'm on a small snack break at this moment ). This trip is actually a celebration of a couple of very special mile markers in our lives:
1) We just celebrated out 30th wedding anniversary Dec. 21st, and
2) Oct. 2nd, 2017 will mark 10 years since my wife saved my life by donating one of her kidneys to me.
Our plan is to be at the Grand Canyon on Oct. 2nd to watch the sunrise to mark our 10th year since the transplant. The rest of the trip is dedicated to our 30 years of wedded bliss. Needless to say, this will be a very special trip for us. I plan on starting a separate thread once we embark on our journey. We are very excited and very much looking forward to our trip.
Dave
Hi Dave,
Congrats on the wedding anniversary and for having such a wonderful partner.
What part of the Grand Canyon are you going to be seeing?
I'm in Prescott Valley AZ and it would be fun to get together if were coming this far.
Good luck and safe driving on your trip.

Thank you for the kind words, I feel truly blessed! We haven't decided on the ultimate landing point yet for the grand canyon, but a get together would be terrific! While we're out that way we will be staying a couple of days with my sister in Phoenix. During that time we will be making a side trip up to Sedona, which I believe isn't all that far from Prescott Valley? If you're close enough, we can definitely make a get together happen on our run up that way.
Might that work?

Hi Dave,
Yes we are very close to Sedona and would love to meet up with you.
I also have been blessed with a loving wife for 33 years come this April.
Just keep me updated so we can make sure to keep that time available.

I would also like to congratulate you on your 33 years of marriage! It seems that folks like us are in the minority these days. If the young people of today could only realize that working through the tough times only make the times after just that much better!
I will keep in touch.

Anyone else taken any good trips lately?
I ended up doing the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2017, long hauled the trip, I did 3500 miles in 10 days, took my Dad and we had a blast.
Now that I've finished my resto, I'm jonesing to do another trip...Not sure where I would want to go this time but...I'm kicking some ideas around.
Anyone going anywhere cool this summer?
