transmission boot leaks

transmission boot leaks
Trans fluid is leaking through where the transmission boot is bolted onto the trans hub. It only leaks/oozes when the car is driving. It is a muncie 4spd. Is this a gasket a must replace or what else could it be?

uhhh, what exactly is a transmission boot? I see by your location, oh wait, you didn't fill that out...are you british? do you mean the tail shaft? at any rate, if it leaks when driving, check and see if it is overfilled. if not, replace the seals...

I would rather have my azz beat than remove a manual trans from a C2/C3. Yes you can remove the trans with the engine installed, been done many times and GM has a procedure for doing just that. Lot of information and tips out there for doing this.
It's not a one man show unless you're a young stud. I've done it solo in the past but last time around (late 50's) I had to call in reinforcements after several attempts to reinstall. I was running out of hands and azz to do it myself.
