Ultimately depends on your purposes, but IMHO a set of Bilsteins is one of the top 5 upgrades the majority of C3 owners should have on their to do list. My $.02
I replaced KYB shocks with Bilstein Sports on my gymkhana-equivalent suspension and love 'em.
Bilstein as well...I have a 78 with originally the stock gymkhana suspension which had the 7 leaf steel spring and GM F-41 front coils. The stock steel rear spring was rated at 292lbs and the front coils were 300-350lbs? (can't remember off the top of my head). The car has 360 composite in the rear today (installed 1986) and 550 front springs, 1 inch lower than stock. I had KYB Gas A Justs in the rear for years...OK but not enough rebound control) and went to Bilstein HD's all around in the early 2000's....SO MUCH better! I currently have Bilstein Sports (30% stiffer than HD's) in the rear and HD in the front. I also have competition adjustable struts with Heim joints in the rear, Poly sway bar bushings front and rear, poly upper and lower control arm bushings, Front spreader bar, Custom rebuilt/blueprinted GTR1999 OEM steering box, etc. The ride, steering, and handling is SO much Better than the factory suspension ever was even new...much much more compliant than my 10 C6Z06. Stiffen the chassis, eliminate unwanted suspension flex, and a composite rear spring and you can go MUCH higher on spring rates than stock with an improvement in ride quality...modern materials are amazing.
I'm very happy with Koni Adjustable shocks. Only a few bucks more than Bilsteins but are more difficult to change adjustment than the much more expensive dial adjustable shocks .

Sound like the Koni Special D's I have, but good shocks. Hope someday to step on up to full blown Koni double-adjustables, having been exposed to multi-adjustables enough to get spoiled.
If you get aggressive Bilstiens would be better but more expensive. My budget was only good for KYB Gas Adjust. They work for me made big change from 35 year old originals.

Not questioning the quality of their wares, but each is entitled to their own subjective opinion. At the top end of the "shock" market are some pretty heavy hitters.
