Default What am I doing wrong...? Speedometer cable...

Well I just finished up with my interior LED conversion. While doing so, I went ahead and re-painted my speedo/tach bezel which was looking pretty rough. Got everything buttoned up and decided to take her out for a spin this evening. Everything turned out great...minus the speedometer not working. And of course the odometer is not working as well. I remember getting it off wasnt the easiest(and yes, I was pushing in the release tab). Putting it back on I assumed would be a breeze. I left the lens cover off and had my right arm under the dash on the cable while pushing in on the speedometer with my left hand. When I thought I had it on all the way, I tugged on it a little and it came back off. So I pushed even harder expecting to hear a snap when it re-seated but nothing. I tugged again and it wouldnt come off so I assumed it was on. So, Im guessing its not on far enough? Any tips of getting back on correctly or seated far enough? Im sure its something minute...?

The speedo drive cable must seat securely into the speedo drive before you clip the cable on.

Ok, I got up under the dash last night. I took the access panel under the steering column and heat duct out and took a peek. The cable was completely disconnected. Im guessing maybe the pushing and cramming putting the speedometer and gauge cluster back in, maybe it wasnt secure? I pushed it back on there and heard a "click" so Im assuming that took care of it? I didnt take it out for a spin yet so not certain...? Now when you say the drive cable, I assume your talkin about the plastic needle inside the cable itself?

Yes. The inner cable is the drive. The outer black is only the sheathing for the drive cable and a place to crimp the cable ends. The drive cable must fit securely into the speedo and into the tranny.
