Okay. I need to get the plug out of the coolant sensor location on a transplanted SBC. In my previous car it was mounted on the rear of passenger cylinder head. I want it in the stock location (front of driver cylinder head) due to wiring. My 1/4 sockets are too small and my 3/8 socket is too big to fit into the square in the screw in plug. Other than grinding down a 3/8 to fit anyone have any other suggestions. Is there a tool? Thanks.

How big is the square? If its 3/8" use the end of a 3/8" extension. If its 5/16" use a piece of 5/16" key stock and an 8-point socket.

there is a tool, basically a small 3/8 drive extention w/o the detent ball. When I worked at a quick lube, those plugs (were also used in rear diff's.) we just used a ratchet and 1" extention. you may have to tap it in if the ball is tight or the plug is rusty.

I had to take a 3/8 extension and sacrificed it by grinding it on my bench grinder a little at a time until it fit. .

Make sure to square off the tip, and hammer it all the way in flush. These can be a bitch to get out...
