I finally have the body off my car and am in the process of stripping down the chassis for sandblasting. I have gotten most of the replacment suspension components I need. I bought a set of new stock replacement front springs and bilstien sport shocks all around. I am now considering replacing my 9-leaf spring with a new monospring instead of re-arching it. It seems that there are 3 springs I might want to consider... a 300, 315, and 330lb spring. I am more concerned about ride quality then handling. the 315 lb spring seems to be a good comprimise between the two. Anyone have an recomendations from experience??
i'm running the 330 lb. rear vette brakes composite. very big improvement over the worn out 9 leaf that it replaced. not sure what your front springs are rated at, but you will want the rear spring to match or compliment the front. i went with the 460 lb. Grand touring fronts to go with the 330lb rear. ride quality is good, but for performance i wish i had gone with the slalom suspension, 550# front and 350 or 360# rear.

I have the same setup. Cost wise I went with the KYB-GR2's (from VetteBrakes) instead of the blistens. So far I'm very happy with the results.

I currently have the VB 330 with standard KYB rear shocks. I have the 550 front coils, also VB, with the KYB GR2. Rides great, much better than my 72 which had the 300, standard KYB's and the 460's up front with the same shock. You should get the 550's. It lowers the front end about 1.5 inches and it is a much better spring than the 460. JMHO :chevy
I went with TRW Fiberglass Composite SPring and Bilstien shocks all around ; nice soft ride , very comfortable , able to make a right hand turn at 125 mph !! :nopity
Re: Composite Spring Recomendations (Rumpity Rump)
Rumpity,
What is the spring rate of the TRW spring you bought? Also what front springs are you running? I'm not looking for a race car. The car is going to handle well regardless of what I put on it. I'm more concerned about ride quality. You sound like you have a nice comfortable setup.
69vetteL46,
I've been thru several spring and stabar combos and settled on the one in my sig for the best in ride quality and handling. Best at least for me...
I like the TRW rear spring over the VB (which I've had 3 of) - seems less bouncy.
From searching through some of the archives it, I decided it was best to use the 315lb spring from muskegon brake. I ordered it last night. The bilstein sport shocks i bought should work with it nicely.
The guy before me put the TRW Composite SPring on, but , ill try and find out the spring rating for you. I just put Bilstein SHocks on the front and back. The ride is very soft and comfortable over stock suspension which ive ridden in. Stock suspension is too firm for my liking and you feel too many bumps in the road. I use my car for 100 percent street use - not racing ... i just went a little overboard on the power increase from the last engine rebuild .
