You can use the original 4 speed or put in the newer auto. It depends on what you want. I took out a 400hp SBC, and stuck in a ~300HP LS. Mine were two different animals. Big cam lumpy to smooth power. No leaks or tuning, starts and runs perfect no matter what -plus much better mileage. Just better for what I want to do nowadays - though I am planning to build a more powerful 6.0LS in the future.
It is a little work to put it in, but that Camaro has all of the parts for the swap - it is the most complete setup for a C3. You can even use the fuel pump. Just do a lot of research before you decide.
Not worth it unless you are going to completely overhaul the LS1 and at least stick a better cam in there. I wouldn't do it unless you were going to have at least 450hp when you are done
The "300" is a gross rating and the "320" is a net rating. A big difference actually.
I agree. I would expect the 300HP car to be closer to ~250(possibly less, depending on your installation) when using the same measuring system as the 320hp LS. Not to mention, some people consider the 320hp rating on Camaro LS1s to be underrated.
Further, true dual exhaust on a 73 is also better than what was underneath the Camaro.
