Default Red Wire

My apologies for lacking a photo to what I am asking to be identified. Just below the windshield wiper motor/washer, there's a buddle of wires that included a large wire. Looking like a 6/8 gauge with a orange wire at the end of it. Looks like a fusable link: anyone can assist identify where the large RED Wire is for? The orange fusable link wire is broken.

I'll phovide photo tonight.

Is it the white car pictured in your avatar?

Hi n2v,
65GG, I'm thinking he's asking about an 'older' car he posts about occasionally.
I believe it's part of the ignition harness.
It starts at the horn relay as a10 gauge red and ends at the starter solenoid as a 12 gauge red.
It does briefly exit the ignition harness near the wiper motor where there's a 20 gauge orange fusible link.
Regards,
Alan

Thank you! The Big RED wires going into one of those black rubber splice with one of the orange fusable link going to it. From your photo, I guess the other end goes to another one of those black rubber splice end.

Hi n2v,
Yes, the black rubber covers the splice from the large gauge wire to the smaller gauge and then back to the larger gauge.
Here's another at the starter.
Regards,
Alan

Alan,
As usual you are spot on with your photos. I verified the wires last night and found the other wire where the other end of fusable link attached to. Now a new question, those rubber connectors. Can I replace them with a standard connect to re-attach the fusable link. Looking at the fusable link, it broke from being moved around and broke immediately from the rubber connector.

Hi n2v,
I would think that yes you can.
You need to remember you'll be making a connection using 2 different wire gauges.
I'm not sure if there's a special connector for joining wires of different gauges or not.
You might check at an electrical store.
Regards,
Alan

I had the same problem with the fusible link splice near the starter a couple of months back. I simply stripped the wires on both sides of splice, soldered them together and covered the solder joint with a piece of heat shrink tubing.
