Default Help !!

I have a 77 L-82 Corvette and the same problem as most the thing runs really hot. I want to change out the stock radiator and put in a aluminum one direct fit with dual fans. The more, I check, I find places that say direct fit but they are 2 row to 4 row and all are different sizes can anyone tell me what the stock radiator is and the over all size or core size? Thanks to all !!

What makes you think it runs "really hot"? Because the temperature gauge indicates HOT? If you're running a stock-sized radiator with a full shroud and 7-blade clutch fan it shouldn't run hot at all. Over the years I have found most C3's that run HOT is the result of using a wrong temperature sender for the gauge. And unless you run full shrouds on the "dual fans" you'll have heating problems for sure because all fans need full shrouds.

My '77 was running hot on the highway and I couldn't figure out why. It ended up being the the outer part of the harmonic balancer had moved and as a result the timing was retarded even though it looked good on a timing light. Since fixing the timing the car runs cool, right at 180 and that is the temp of the thermostat I have in it.

Get a Harbor Freight infra-red heat sensor gun (about $20). Calibrate it with a pot of boiling water, and then check your actual radiator output temp. Make sure all of the rubber sealing material is proper. Consider taking the radiator to a shop to have it cleaned thoroughly. Flush the motor. Also, make sure the lower hose isn't collapsing due to restrictions in the radiator (have it cleaned by a shop) or a replacement hose that doesn't have the wire spring insert. And last but not least, all these C3's feel like the cabin is overheated. Consider inserting shut-off valves in the heater hoses.
