Default Temperature sensor

I'm a little confused ( nothing new) ...what is the correct Temperature sensor for in the block of a 1978 vet....when I went to purchase one on the vendor websites I see that some have two different types...the tops where the wire connector attaches are different...
Also some people say not to put anything on threads when installing and some say to ( either teflon tape or anti- seize paste) putting something on would it effect the readdings..??
Thanks

Any kind a pipe sealer (including Teflon tape) will work fine because it only takes a teensy-tiny metal-to-metal contact to allow the sensor to work.

Dont expect the readings to be correct after installing a new sensor. I tried 3 different brands, none of them work the same as the factory unit does. ( you might get lucky ) 3 of the same brand it is possible 1 works similar. Worth searching on which brand will give you the best odds. Check Wilcox Corvette ( sponsor here )

On my 74 the sensor is a "button" type connector. when I was installing the wiring harness I noticed that the sensor wire was a Female spade type. All I did was remove the hardplastic terminal insulator from the new wire harness and replaced it with my old button wire insulator,,, As far as teflon on the threads I only put teflon on the top half of the threads!!.... i was also confused on that.

Over the years I have found the temperature sensors need to come from the Corvette ONLY vendors because they are correct for the gauge used. The aftermarket sensors may look correct but they never are.

The threads are sharp enough to cut through the tape and make contact. I have posted actual testing of the wrapping of teflon tape and unless you use the complete roll there may be a problem

I assume when you mean top, it is the difference between thumbtack and regular spade? use the thumbtack, some call penny tops. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sm...ber/gm-1513321

There is an AC Delco G1852 http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/cat...log_search.php
