I have been reading about putting some water in the carb to get rid of carbon . I have hand a clicking sound coming from the engine for the whole summer . ive also had carb problems and have a new one coming so I figured what the heck . took it out and ran it pretty hard , had some hesitation off the line but I think thats the carb but got it pretty hot . took it back to the garage revved it up and held it to around 2200 and with a spray bottle ran around 10 oz of water through it . didn't notice anything when doing it not even a sputter . took it back out and got it up to around 4500 on the tack most of the hesitation gone . back in garage at idle no click at all sounds the best it has in a long time . when I went behind the car the floor was wet . don't know if this is good or bad what I did but the engine really sounds good and smooth .

Water will easily remove carbon but you must be careful to not overdo it. A real fine mist going into an engine fast idling at 1500 rpm will quickly remove a lot of it but so will a full throttle in 3rd gear for about 10 seconds.
GM actually sells a chemical top end de-carbon cleaner, it works better than plain water. My buddy has to de carbon his 13.5:1 race motor every so often.....too much idling time at AutoX events.......he uses the GM stuff.
ive been pushing it pretty hard playing with my carb . after I did the water out of a spray bottle around 10 oz at 2000 rpm the engine never even sputtered when I did it .I now have no click at all , which had sound like it came from the pass side which also had more carbon on the floor . I built this engine 25 years ago .
