Stater woes
Started vette sat night and starter would not disengage .Does that sound like a solenoid or should i replace the whole deal .Have cranked up twice with no reacurring problem . :blueangel:

It is a malfunctioning Bendix drive that is the problem. That is the part on the starter that has the teeth on it. You can buy just that part. Check it first for burrs band if there are any file them smooth. Also the unit should spin free in one direction but lock up in the other. On rare occasions the solenoid COULD cause the problem but most likely not.

Also check for a weak battery and replacement spring in the soleniod. A lot of guys have swapped out the solenoid springs to a lighter GM spring-me included. The one problem I was told from a starter rebuilder is if the battery drops down and draws more amps then the copper washer in the solenoid may weld to the contacts because the lighter spring can't overcome it~starter run on. It hasn't happened to me but has to a friend with another Gm car. I just installed the spring about 3 weeks ago without a problem.
