Default E brake light

I am still sorting out some small things on my 69. The E brake light does not work. Perhaps the bulb. Any suggestions on how to reach it? Not as much room as on my 67 to get back in there.

Default How to test the bulb!

From the master cylinder follow the brake lines down to the distributon block and remove the TAN wire.
With the key ON ground that wire.
If the bulb lights then check the adjustment on the parking brake switch which is under the parking brake console.

BINGO!! we have a light! Now, how do I take apart the console, and does it slip over the e brake handle? Thanks!!

Default Hidden rear bolt!

You have to remove the 'rear bolt' to remove the parking brake console.
Here's a link that shows where the bolt is located:

Well the first thing I did was remove both seats. I wanted to vacumm up the mice droppings etc from under the seats anyway. So I took the four screws out first and lifted up the console a bit to see what was up. Well a mouse had chewed the tan wire that triggers the brake light, Eureka! So I fished what was left of the wire in the console and spliced in a 4 inch piece of wire. I was lucky enough to just grab enough. I use scotch locks, they are always a God send in tight situations. Thanks you so much for the link as to how to remove that %$#* console bolt! Ye God's! Mine is a 3/8 machine bolt with a connicle end. The bolt is welded to the metal backing in the console.
Mine was broken and I had ordered a new one a while back. Very common as I remember having a third party (girl) sit there ! So now that I have the brake light working and will be installing the new console when it gets here, I will take off the seat tracks, clean them up and paint and reinstall them. Seems to me I started another restoration with "just fixing this one thing!"

Special thanks to Mooser for taking the time to photograph the hidden bolt and for his excellent write up!

ive got the same problem in my 69, except exactly the opposite.

i just started putting my interior back together and it wont go out ive pulled the wire off the distribution block, and mashed the e brake plunger all the way down with a screw driver. no go on both.

First remove the TAN wire from the distribution block and confirm the light stays ON.

Remove the TAN wire from the parking brake switch and check for continuity.
The switch is OFF with the button DOWN and ON with the parking brake handle pulled UP.

If the switch tests good then follow the TAN wire and see where it is pinched.
