Default Electrical question

So I have been looking around and different e-fan set ups and ran across a fan relay pack from a Volvo to operate a dual speed single fan. I stumbled across this wiring diagram, but doesn't this 40 amp breaker render this 80 amp continuous use rely useless?

Most newer cars have variable fan controller but it's kinda overkill. Most on off thermostat controls work well and are cheap. Anything with the BMW name on it is expensive and often hard to get without going thru the dealer.

The bmw forums are using this Volvo relay and fan to cool their v8 swaps into 3 series cars, but the question is about that 40 amp breaker and the 80 amp relay.

The 80A relay is just to keep it reliable. A smaller 30A-40A Bosch style relay won't operate the Taurus fan too long before it burns out.

The 80 amp may be overkill, but that's much better then going too small. The 40amp breaker protects the entire circuit from overload such as a melted and shorted wire. The 80 amp relay is connected to an ignition source to turn off the fans after the ignition is shut down. It's an 80 amp so it's more durable and doesn't burn the contacts with the continual turning on and off.

I use cole hersee 24059 continuous duty 80 amp solenoid/relay on my fan and fuel pump circuits. Got my last one on amazon for $9.
