Are you sure the backspace is 4.00 and not 4.5? An offset of 0 with an 8 inch wheel equates to a 4.5 inch backspace. An offset of -12mm equates to a 4 inch backspace with an 8 inch wheel.

I asked this question about backspace earlier and got the answer 4,00 backspace...i am not sure!
17 x 8 wheels with a 4 inch back space are hard/expensive to find. I just bout some 17 x 8 wheels with a 4.5 inch backspace. If everything works I will leave things as is, otherwise I will have to get longer wheels studs and use a 1/2 inch wheel spacer. For my wheels I got some 235/55 R17 Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires. I considered going 255/50 R17, but wasn't sure if I would have rubbing problems. I think that would have been fine if I had gone with the 1/2 inch spacers. When you mount the wheels check for clearance of the wheels and tires.
I just installed the 17x8 with 4.07" backspace offset -11 on my 69. If you use the American Racing website and input your year and car they give you the information you need.

17x8 4.07" backspace is what you want. Forget talking about offset and backspace in the same sentence. It is simply a different term expressing the same thing. If you get much more than 4" backspace on a 17" wheel you may run into interference with the parking brake cable bracket. I have these wheels with plenty of clearance.
The perfect size tire would be 255/50-17s because they are 27" tall the same as stock but.........there's always a but........there could be rubbing issues in the front. There are some C3s on this forum running that combination with no issues.
Do want to run the same size front and rear so you can rotate? If so that size might not work. If you're not concerned with rotation buy 2 and test fit. I think if there were rubbing issues it would be with the wheels turned. Take a look at a '78 Pace Car and note where the fenders were trimmed from the factory on the leading edge and rear corner of the front wheel well. As mentioned above the 235/55-17s should work with no issues.
Same size front and rear. I clearanced the fender lips and there's an occasional light rub with the wheels turned all the way (hitting one of the steering box bolts). You can use a 245/50-17 up front and it should clear.
Since I couldn't take a chance with rubbing I went with 255/45x17. They are approximately 1 inch less in diameter, 26". I went with the BF Goodrich g-force comp 2, a summer only tire with a W speed rating. Much better than the old 15" TA's.

OK..Now i have 215/75 15. stock tire was P70 15..
What that translates to i do not know...
I`m thinking of 245/55-17, with a set of TT2:s..
What do you think?
