I am so pissed I can barely see straight. Had a Corvette resto shop install new glass in my '76.I was told it would take a day so I took it in the morning. Before I left I asked him when would it be done cause I had to arrange a ride back. Then it changed to tomorrow.Well I'm already there so OK.Dont hear back the next day so I call, say they got tied up on another"project".Following day he calls and say the guy who does the installs came in late and would have it done the next day .WTF!! Calls today and says its done but price has doubled cause the birdcage had "some" surface rust so they had to grind a bit. I'm thinking OK its a resto shop they know whats up. Go pick it up, looks good. Get home gonna wash it and pop the hood and I instantly see a small chip on the bottom edge that has now started cracking vertical. I didn't pop the hood when I picked it up so I didnt see it because its below the hood. I called them right away but they didn't answer. What should I do? What would you do?
Don't pay for anything until you get the work done right and the bill is acceptable to you.
I already paid for it . Didn't see it because it was on the lower edge where the black out is. My guess is it was chipped during install and by the time I got it home it looked like this.
If they don't treat you fair, just park the car on the public street in front of their shop with a sign and your phone number praising what a good job they do, with an arrow to the crack. I promise they will call you.
If you paid by credit card, dispute the charge. If you paid by check, stop payment. This will 'encourage' the shop to return your call.
If you paid cash, just hope they take care of it. I personally use a credit card for practically everything I purchase for several reasons including recourse on problems like you are experiencing. I think you have 90 days to dispute a charge. In case you go this route, keep a complete history of what has transpired, including the doubling of the estimate unless you approved it before the work was completed and calls not returned with dates, etc., because the credit card co. will ask for such info.
