Default Rear Storage Compartment Assembly

This if for the 3 compartment for a '75 coupe.

I know that the doors bolt to the hinges but how do most mount the hinge to the frame if not using the stock type rivets. I need to start assembling them today and can't get the rivets in time so what are my other options?

I though I saw a write up on the "Rear Compartment Assembly" once but can't locate it anymore.

Don't know for sure on your 75 but on my 69 the hinges are screwed through the tray and through the Fiberglas the through a metal backing piece under the car. Iirc

Short pop rivets will work.

I always thought the doors were secured to the storage compartment frame, then the whole assembly was secured to the metal bracket as shown.

I'm only at the stage of securing the doors to the frame.

jnb5101Don't pop rivets have a dome type head that will impede with the hinge?

The short rivets should clear the hinge if the flat side faces the door.

I missed this one. Probably already on but..

The shape of the hinges allow for some clearance where the rivet heads are. The hinges are originally riveted on and the deformed head is thicker than the domed head of a "pop" rivet.

You can use the screws that hold the frame to the car (the ones that go into the metal strip shown above) to hold the hinge in place as well. Harder to align the doors within the frame but hey it's only once.

Be aware that on some cars that metal strip was pushed away at one or both ends when they were drilling the pilot holes and may not be there to grab the outer most screw

Now's a good a time as any to correct that though...

Thanks for the reply jnb5101 and Mooser, this is the point I'm at now as I'm working on 6 different areas of the car depending on when I can get the parts ready for install.

I found that it's easier to install (at least set in place ) the frame without the doors attached. The doors are so heavy that I was afraid that the frame was going to twist and break.

And don't forget to put in the center cardboard glovebox liner before the frame gets all bolted in....

Now's also the easiest it ever gets to put that bolt in the back of the e-brake console
