Default Holley EFI + 77 fuel tank question.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Holley Terminator EFI. My question is if/how it will work with the stock fuel tank in a 77.

The rest of it seems pretty straight forward and idiot proof.

I searched the forum with the same question and came up with nothing. Bob and I are doing the install right now.

Concerning your fuel tank.

If going internal fuel pump :
1) its not baffled to avoid fuel starvation, 2) if stock you still have mechanical fuel pump so you need a way to install a walbro to the sender unit 3) i think they have a bladder inside

If going external:
Probably yes, got no experience with 75+ tanks.

I think using a internal fuel pump has numerous advantages over a external pump.

External pumps will face all the issues that an internal pump has as they are still relying on a tank pickup that could not be finding fuel. They also tend to be noisier as they're, well, external.

Vette Works sells a tank that supposedly is baffled for EFI, and aeromotive sells a kit to convert any tank to EFI (Aeromotive Phantom).

Supposedly, the Phantom is one of the quietest fuel pumps out there.

I'm going to be doing some work with MSD's Atomic EFI system, probably next month, and will have a chance to experiment with the Phantom setup. It's going on a 78 (24 gal tank), so a little different than the earlier cars but not much.

Sweet keep me posted. I don't plan on spending $1000 on a pump for the Phantom setup. $500+ for a new tank doesn't seem needed as of yet either. I will most likely start with finding a way to hook up to the stock tank, and seeing how it works out from there.

Will do.

The phantom setup is $440 from Summit FWIW. You'll still need a line, a filter, regulator, and fittings which will add another $250-500 depending on where you go. As long as you keep the tank above the halfway point you'll be fine.

At 3/8 tank (on the fuel gauge), I was getting my low fuel light set while autocrossing the 78 last weekend - so I have little doubt a fuel pump would get starved for an EFI app. Cruising down the road and light acceleration and turning should be fine though.

I have a 77 that I installed TPI into. Below is a link to my write-up on fabbing an in-tank pump system with provisions to prevent fuel slosh.

This kit should cover all that right? Ignore the extra pump. I would most likely sell it on eBay. Considering the fact that the kit is more than worth the price.

I really like the prices they have, sadly they don't make one for my car.

I would much rather have an internal for a number of reasons. If you like to do things yourself, I added a late model Chevy fuel pump module to my stock tank. I did put a new tank in while I was at it, but didn't really need it. The module has a bucket/reservoir that the pump sits in eliminating starvation. The Vetteworks kit is very similar to what I did. You could get a new tank that has no bladder and do similar. I used a junkyard module and swapped in a new pump. My regulator is at the engine. I have less than $50.00 in the new pump + price of new tank - think it was less than $150.00. I use my old sending unit.

I went with the 68-74 EFI Tank (TM33D-T) you have to do a small mod to the straps and buy a neck for the 74 but I like it !

I used the sending unit from an 82 for my ls swap. Mounted a walbro pump to the unit and works like a champ. My tank was 78 and I think the 75 is the same. Don't even need to remove the tank to add the pump. You can barely hear it during start up. Never had an issue with starving for fuel but I haven't autocrossed or any real hard cornering, usually don't go below 1/4 tank of fuel.
