If you do not know the specification for your wires, measure the resistance of each wire. Remember to divide the length of the wire by 12 to get a "per foot" measurement. If one wire is out of that average spec, it is at fault

If you're going through the 'boomerang' remove the distributor cap end on the old wire and put a drop of oil where the wire meets the boot.
Slide the boot up a quarter of an inch to get the oil under the boot and then pull the boot off.
Tie a string on the end of that wire and pull it out from the spark plug end.
Remove the boot from the new wire and attach the string to it and pull it back up.

I just went through this on my 1970 (in fact, it was my post that was referenced above). I replaced my wires with a universal set of Taylor Street Thunder. They come with one end already on it and then you route them how you want, cut to length and crimp on the other end and put a boot on it.

The Taylors were a huge improvement in terms of a massive reduction of resistance. If you do this, I highly recommend getting a good ratcheting crimping tool that has an ignition wire setting. You can get them for ~$40 or so. I tried a cheap non-ratcheting one and it just wouldn't work.

Good luck!
