Default 71 Corvette exhaust hangers

Can anyone help with the location of the factory exhaust hangers on a 71? Also what hangers are needed. Mine has an array of bubba hangers.

Thanks,Bill

From the factory, there's a saddle bracket that attaches to the transmission cross member which supports two saddle clamps. There are also two hangers just above the rear side of the muffler that attach to the frame. The supports at the transmission cross member are specific, either 2" or 2 1/2" dependent on which engine/exhaust combo you have.

Original exhausts just have two of each. The lower picture shows new vs. old.

When your car originally left the factory the mufflers were welded to the intermediate pipe. This made the exhaust system two pieces, the front pipe that attached to the exhaust manifolds and the intermediate pipe with mufflers welded to it.

Most aftermarket exhaust systems have the mufflers as separate units, making a three piece exhaust system.

Hi Revi,
Good to see your pictures and talk to you.
Is the system in your picture from Gardner?
If so, how did you handle the weld at the muffler? My impression is the weld ends up being a small distance from the muffler's plate… is that so?
Is there a way to remedy that?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

In my exhaust picture, the welded unit was on the car when I bought it. It may be an Allen exhaust, but I'm not sure.
The non-welded pipe is a Gardner exhaust. I did not have them welded. I just use a saddle clamp for the muffler attachment.

I'll be at the Texas Regional in Oct.. You?

Regards,
Mike
