This is the AIM sheet for installing the steering column into a 1976 Vette. It is very important that you follow the build instructions so that you get the steering column steering shaft aligned to the input shaft on the steering gear.

I would suggest that you purchase the Assembly Instruction Manual for your '76.

Ernie's the man with the info (yes, you should have an AIM, handy reference for a lot of stuff)

There should be 4 carriage bolts that hold the top and bottom brackets together (they lock into those slots in the upper bracket and allow the bottom bracket to slide fore/aft to adjust the column height vs the dash pad.
The lower bracket slots allow the column to slide left/right to center in the dash pad.

You can see the bolts hanging here

Here's the two outside bolts in with the column installed

One of the simplest / most confusing installations on the car.

The AIM instructions Ernie posted are an interesting read (likely the worst in the entire AIM) but once you figure out what they are actually trying to accomplish it's pretty straight forward.

If you don't have the drivers dash in, just snug everything up for now.

First of all, I am sorry to revive an old thread.

However, this is pertinent to something I am working on - I can't find the hardware sizes for items (B), (D), or (E) in the Assembly Instruction manual above. My car is a 1980, so I believe that it is the same hardware size as the '76 in question. Thanks!
