Not much is original on my car. I got it from my dad and he got it from Bubba. From what I understand, the guy took a non-Corvette small block and added headers and a racing carb to try and make the performance close to that of an LT1.
This is definitely frustrating. I know I can duplicate the leak when I take the car for a drive, but the the oil gets everywhere. So I jacked up the car and wiped down the oil pan, fuel pump, and anything else in that general area. I dropped the car and then ran it for about ten minutes in neutral, slowly revving and holding the tach around 3500, trying to duplicate the leak. The only thing I see is the slightest drip or two that look like they can down from one of the clamps holding the black rubber line to the fuel pump. Here is a pic of my pump:
Maybe you have a leak either where the intake manifold meets the engine block, or from the crankshaft seal, and the air is whipping the oil around when you're driving the car. A good shower with Simple Green and a garden hose would be my suggestion.
I think I found the leak. It's not the fuel pump. I'm almost 100% sure it's from the front of the oil pan. I took it to shop to have the oil pick up replaced and to put on a new pan because I kept reading that the pan gasket was a pita to put on. It's back at the shop being fixed at no extra charge.
Make sure your PVC system is working and there is no pressure building up in the crankcase. I had the same problem years ago.
not sure if you are still on the forum all these years later - but can you elaborate on this? I am trying to figure out if I have a bad fuel pump. I noticed what looked like some weeping of gasoline from the fuel pump (not the lines) that was dripping a bit. I started the car and briefly ran it. Initially there was some gas blown out, but after drying it up and letting the car run a bit more there was no more gas leaking. So I am confused now. it is a 1978 with just over 22K miles
