Default Side Pipe Insert Question

I need quieter inserts for my 82.Since changing the cam the level of bark from the side pipes has a couple of my neighbors complaining enough that the local P.D. was waiting when I got home from my last drive. No ticket but a polite request to get the sound down so they stop getting complaints. So here we go till the 80 plus yr old neighbor bellies up or moves this is how its gotta be. There is a different part number for hooker reverse flow mufflers big block and small block. My question is if I use the ones for a big block. 1,are they the same outer dimension or are big block side pipes larger? 2,if they fit they should flow more than the small block version and still be quieter than the 2 1/2" maxflows that I have now... or am I realy dreaming ? By the way same neighbor called P.D. on the 17 yr old kid up the road for the fart can on his honda that is 25X quieter than my vette so I gotta do something. Up for suggestions ( related to the mufflers. I'll deal with the neighbors). Thanks in advance, I'm still working on the video of the 82 with the magnum 270 cam and the CFI but photo bucket is killing me. Thanks ,Jim.

Default Side Pipe Insert Question

My recommendation is to contact classic chambered and tell them what you have and what you want sound wise. They will help you get it right the first time.

Absolutely! And the car never runs before 10am and is always home by 6pm! none the less it has got more bark now with the new cam so its never quiet, before unless it was under power it was reasonable... oh well.

I'm reluctantly giving in for my vette's sake. They all have a rude awakening when my kids open wheel modified is ready for the motor to be fired even with the required mufflers they are defening and will echo through the neighborhood. Nothing like setting the all in timing @4grand with race exhaust!

I was called on once on my 66'. I live in a cul de sac with some octogenarians.

The officer came when the engine was cooling down......he said he had to. He was friendly.....but he looked at me funny when I said the sidepipes came from GM that way and that I could not fix it.

Your neighbour sounds like a guy who would buy a house beside an airport and then complain about the noise. Unfortunately, they're out there.
