squeaky speedometer cable
My speedometer has been randomly bouncy since I got the car over a year ago. A few weeks ago I started randomly hearing a squeak that I thought was a problem with the front left wheel. I couldn't find the problem, though and it seemed to go away.
It returned the other day and does not seem to want to go away this time, but I noticed that the squeak changes pitch when the speedometer bounces which makes me pretty positive it's the cable.
Is there a way to lubricate this cable?
If so, is it possible to do without removing the dash?
Thanks for any help

Most of the corvette catalogs sell a lube adapter which fits on the cable.
Disconnecting the cable from the speedo is not necessary if you just want
to lubricate the it; the lubricating should be done at the tranny side of the cable. I just replaced the entire speedo cable in my 76 because it was making noise. It's a tight fit but you can disconnect the cable from the speedo without taking the dash apart. Removing the driver seat makes working under the dash much easier. Also, if you decide to replace the cable, get someone to help because an extra pair of hands sure make fishing the cable thru the firewall much easier... Good luck :)

I would crawl underneath the dash, disconect the cable from the speedo, and squirt some graphite in the end of the cable. This method has always worked well for me.
