Default Choke rod

My choke rod keeps falling off, what can I do about it?

Thanks

Russ

Judging from the tweaked-open slot in the lever it appears someone pried the slot open to get the link off at one time and left it tweaked-open. Put the link back on and carefully squeeze the slot "more closed" and the link will stay put. And that link isn't a "choke" rod but rather the rod that (with the diaphragm) prevents the secondary air valve from opening too fast (same reason why mechanical secondary carburetors were never intended for street use).

Thanks for the reply, took my needle nosed vice grips and squeezed the link closer together. Just tight enough to hold the bent end but not tight enough to prevent it from moving.

Took it out for a drive and it seems to be staying put.

Thanks again

It also looks like the bent end of the rod got straightened. That bent end should be at a 90 degree angle to the slot so it remains in the slot. The diaphragm is there to prevent the secondary air valve from opening too quick and bogging the engine so its necessary to have it operating correctly. That diaphragm SHOULD hold vacuum so check it before assuming its okay.

Russ, Spin the choke rod around 180 degrees, it should stay in much better!

At first I couldn't figure out your picture, then the light bulb went off!

Wonder why someone would have turned it around?

I haven't played with the carb since I bought the car.

Thanks again

Russ
