So I have a 77 Corvette. Out for paint now. I went to discount tire to price rims and tires, get some info. I love the torque thrust style. Anyway. I went up there and they said the widest I could get was 8 inch in the back. But obviously there info is what ever they read on a computer screen. I wanted at least 9 1/2 or 10 width without modding. So my question is there anyone who has a wide rim in the back of a stock 77. Forgive me, I am a rim and tire rookie. Really struggling here guyz..
8" is about it if you don't want to modify anything. You could fit 9" by moving the parking brake cable bracket from the side of the trailing arm to the top.
You might want to put the new wheels on hold and take a look at offset trailing arms that will allow you to have up to 10" wheels. I have some from Van Steel. They are a quality product.

Wow. I guess I was wrong. 8 is as big as I can go..

So if I went 9, does my actual tire have to 9 inches wide. I'm just looking for traction ya know
You didn't mention what rim diameter you would like to go with. If you're wiling to go with 18s a 18X9.5 with a 5" backspace and a 275 tire will work. You can get away with a wider wheel when you go with 18s because the trailing arm is no longer the limiting factor. The frame is.

Hmmm. There's the catch. I was looking for 18 in back. 10 inch width.
