To answer need to know if the other wheel spun while you were spinning the first one. Because if it spun the same way, then it's probably a posi rear end and you have a really funky rear end ratio  If it spun the opposite way, not a posi and can't really figure the ratio. If it didn't spin at all you have a 3.50 : 1 ratio . Now it's 5am I just got home , have a wedding I'm the best man in tommorrow so there's a good chance there's a fault in my logic
Spin the one wheel and if the oppisite side turns the same way it is a posi. If it spins in the other direction it is a non posi. If it is a non posi the rotating the wheel trick does not always work. If you can with a non posi leave one wheel on the ground and spin the other. This should give you the proper rear ratio.
If the turns are accurate, sounds like you might have a 3.55. If it's a 3.55 posi, you'd have some folks kill for that gear. They can be hard to find. :smash:

Re: Checking rear-end gear ratio. (joevette57)
Well, both wheels turned alright, but not the same direction. I dropped one side down and just spun one wheel. That is when I got 1 1/2 driveshaft turns to one wheel turn. Couldn't figure out the math as to what ratio that would mean.
I want a lower gear. This is for the truck that hauls parts for my C3.
By the way, the 1980 just got back from the shop. New rear bearings, bushings, strut rods, e-brake parts, shocks, u-joints, brake lines, AND installed 3.73 rear gears to go with my 700R4 transmission.
With the low first gear in the tranny, and the 3.73's in back, 1st gear is a very short one !
