door spring install on 68 convert
I watched the Willcox video for installing the door spring with the hinge in a vice, off the car. I have the tool they recommend, but with the door actually on the car, space is limited and I am having trouble getting the top part of the spring in place so I can lever the bottom part. Top of spring hits part of the door frame so it will not go in place. If I grind about 1/4 inch off the end of the top curve to get clearance, will the spring stay there or will it slip out? I really do not want to take the door off to get the spring in place. Suggestions? RA

If you remove more meet from the spring to get more clearance you'll be fine as long as you get the spring end in that D slot. Once it's in place the D slot is what holds it in place.
