Got away with speeding..... again :D :D

BTW: The ticket was for going 56 in a 40 mph zone and I was guilty as hell...

I'd be very happy to see all of the money you give your "Ticket Attorney" go to a lobbiest who would raise the highway speed limits.
No, I'm no saint by any means. I have occassionally sped on the highway (I do my best to stay under the speed limit on minor and neighborhood roads though), but the couple of times I've been caught, I've paid the ticket. I was guilty and they caught me; case closed.
Just my $0.02

I spend literally 8 hours a day behind the steering wheel driving. The hijinks I witness EVERYDAY are scary. People run red lights more often than not down here. The speed limit is regarded as a SUGGESTION only.
We have so many different cultures down here and each culture has it's own patterns of both good and bad.
The police have different "divisions" by the way. Some are assigned to catch speeders and traffic enforcement in general, and some are assigned to catch the murderers, rapers, and general bad guy.
I'm well connected with this and speak from experience, but this is my .02

First having worked traffic for several years I believe the guy in the passing lane running the speed limit with traffic stacked up behind him is a FAR bigger danger than the guy speeding in the passing lane.:cuss I would always take one of these guys over a speeder. People think they have the RIGHT to sit out there in that lane driving the speed limit. In most states they do not. My state was one of those and I would nail every one of those I saw.
As far as GrandSport “getting off”, he didn’t get off of anything. He just worked the system. I see nothing wrong with that. I advise my friends to take any ticket to court, guilty or not. Unless you are a habitual offender chances are it will be dismissed or reduced. The police Officer out there has a job to do, which is to try to maintain a safe driving environment for you and your family. His simple presence does that. If he is seen writing tickets, he has done his jobs. After the ticket is written he could not care less what happens, it’s then between you and the state and it’s simply a money issue. When you fight a ticket it will usually cost you more than if you paid it. (You will go to court at least twice, time off work etc.) If you have any attorney it will defiantly cost you more than if you paid it. A ticket is not supposed to be punishment; it’s supposed to be a deterrent. It cost GrandSport money therefore they did their job.
I agree that the speed limits are to slow for MOST people. However, the statistics bear out that when you raise the speed limits traffic fatalities increase. Some people can not handle those higher speeds. That guy next to you running 80 and talking on a cell phone would kill himself or you if anything happened that required his full attention.
As far as that rape stuff is anybody buying that crap? Whenever I heard that it was usually the ramblings of some one that I just caught in crime that they thought was minor.
In the case of rape Police are reactive not proactive. When was the last time you were driving down the street and saw a rape? As someone else pointed out there are different jobs. The traffic cop’s job is to bust you for traffic violations.:p: (They help pay the bills) The district patrol car is to catch the bad guys.:smash: (They don’t help pay the bills, but they have a lot better job.)
As a reserve officer, who now sees very little traffic enforcement detail, I agree with all you said.
Again, the traffic cop or motor unit that pulled over GS-C3 didn't know him from Adam. He could have been one of those rapists/murderers. The traffic officer, other than running a DL check doesn't know how safe and professional driver he is, that he never cuts off people, has no road rage, etc. All the officer knows is that an infraction has been commited, in the officers best judgement, using the tools available to him.
I'm sure Olivier is a FINE driver, and I in no way mean to offend him or his car or driving skills. BUT, that little old lady or man might not be able to visually discern his rate of approach correctly when Mr./Mrs old person (or young person) tries to pull into traffic. 16 MPH over the limit aint a lot, but it does make a difference.
GS-C3, I am NO angel, and i mean no offense. I'm glad for you things worked out they way you wanted.
I know I'm a good good driver, it's all those other nuts that create the problem. Yet I also know that almost no one admits to being a bad driver either. So, which of you are the lying, bad driving jerks? I know you're out there. You know who you are! (but it isn't me, really)
In seriousness, I really think the driving standards are made for the lowest common denominator. I really believe all of us would do a better job, pay more attention, be more courteous, and even be able to drive faster more safely if the bar was raised for all. It is a privelege, not a right.
