One more Vortec head question

First of all, thanks to all for answering my questions about cams and heads when I was trying to decide what to do to my '79.

I have decided to do Vortec heads and probably the XE262 cam. One thing I can't seem to find an answer for...Will I be able to use the stock exhaust manifolds with the Vortec heads?

Yes you read that right, "manifolds". Sticking with the manifolds. Don't hate me.

Yes, no problems using the stock exhaust manifolds.

Most vortec heads have centerbolt valve covers. So you may need new valve covers or adapters to use your old ones.

Yeah, I'll get new valve covers. I'm sure there are plenty of little 'extras' I'll be shelling out for when I do this.

Two things about using Vortec heads, in case you don't know:
Spark plugs are long reach type, not the same as for L48 heads.
Your total ignition timing, initial plus mechanical, with vac advance temporarily plugged, should not exceed 34 degrees.

Well dont say I didnt WARN YOU!

Keeping stock exhaust manifolds is just silly after all that work.

Make SURE you cam does not exceed the lift those heads will support.

Be sure to read up on setting valve lash. I still manage to puck it up from time to time. Best of luck. Enjoy your build!
