I have a BB hood that needs the frame replaced or a section of frame with the left side hinge mounts reconstructed. This was a $200 Craigslist find. One option seems to be a heat gun, putty knives, and time to get the old frame off then bond on another one. Another option would be creating an insert that extends beyond the cut out section in each direction. What do you recommend?
You could make a foam insert to the proper shape. You would also make a metal threaded bolt backup plate sunk into the foam. Grind back all edges so you have a good taper on each surface. The sides you'd go down to the bottom corner and the front and back probably taper it about 8" or so. Layer up fiberglass going larger and larger with each layer to fill in the taper. Once you get that far grind and sand it smooth and it should be good to go.
