I've posted a few notes about fuel delivery problems and I think I worked out a few good things.
I've been pestered with noisy high volume electric fuel pumps and low pressure quiet ones. I installed a Holley universal on Friday and it works great. It's quiet, easy to mount and puts out more pressure than I can handle. http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...P/512-105.html
To regulate the pressure I installed an Aeromotive bypass regulator. http://216.242.145.16/products/product.phtml?p=15. I liked this one a lot because it allowed me to put any excess pressure back to the tank through the return line. This, I think, should extend the life of the electric fuel pump.
I was using the stock filter to facilitate the return line, but since it was no longer needed, I used one of the clear universal filters. I have a picture about 1/2 way down on my beginner web site. http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/jeffreed/
So far, I am very happy with the set up. I need to clean it up with some allen-head 3/8" plugs, but it looks pretty good so far. Let me know what you think...
Re: Slick Fuel Delivery System for early C3 (1bad69)
I get that question often... I had one bad experience, plus I want to go fule injected one day. I had a really nice 69 pickup with a 350 and one day it started running really poor. I troubleshot the ignition, carb and all the normal items. I finally broke down and took it to a professional and he figured out the cam shaft was worn almost flat on the fron 1/3 lobes. Turned out the rubber diaphram on the Holley hi-pro meachanical fuel pump sprung a leak on the inside and was sprying raw gas on the cam. I fugured that was enough of a bad experience not to use a mechanical if I can do it with an electric. Just my personal problem!! [IMG][/img] Report this to a moderator DoInsert(' :cry ');[/IMG]
Re: Slick Fuel Delivery System for early C3 (Langadorf)
When I first installed the new regulator, the pressure was flowing 20lbs through the glass filter. They seem to flow enough for carbs, but I'm open to suggestions too.
Re: Slick Fuel Delivery System for early C3 (1bad69)
I had a diagram rupture on my and it filled the motor with gas. The oil came out the dip stick hole. I won't let this happen again. I also like to prime my system before I start up and on comming home I shut the pumps off about 1/8th mile from home to lower the level in the float bowls in case there is any porculation. I also always run 2 electric pumps incase of one failing. I found a bunch of nice rubber mounts just made for mounting and isolating those noisy pumps. Don't know what they come off of>
