Just pulled the oil pan off my 496 big block to replace the rear main seal, and was wondering if you guys can identify it... is this a stock pan? I don't see a part # on it, but it's 8" deep and about 10" from the front of the pan to where it begins to rise.
I ask because it has an aftermarket dipstick that I've never trusted, and I'm trying to figure out how many quarts I should be using when I do an oil change.
The stock pan has a hinged trap door at the front of the sump. Your pan doesn't look stock to me but it looks like a well-made pan. When the windage tray is installed on the main caps the tray completely covers the sump.
Thanks for the info... I went back and looked, and mine does have the hinged door that you mentioned (see pic). Maybe mine is stock after all? If so, is that a 5 qt. oil change (with filter) or 6 qt?

Thanks for the comments on my post. This is the best pic I have of the oil pan... I was told that the prior owner was racing the car.... so far everything I have seen on this car seems to fit that. I removed the solid motor mounts and want to get rid of the crazy stiff clutch too.... its got a scatter shield, which is fine however :-) What do you think of this oil pan?
