I'm putting an aftermarket stereo in my 76, the stock harness has three wires, can you tell me what the three wires are for and which is which? Thank you
Grey = +12V for the dial lighting. Comes from the Instrument Panel Lighting circuit--unlikely to be needed for an aftermarket stereo.
Black = -12V ground
Yellow = +12V from the radio fuse (10A)
Since most aftermarket stereos need a constant source of power, your best bet for such is to get it from the accessory circuit. Look for the orange wire feeding the lighter. Any part of that circuit is OK for a very small amount of power like needed for the memory functions of a modern stereo.
Not that I saw when I took the dash apart. It does have some factory amp, kinda primitive
I think that's what I'm talking about if stereo there is 2 of them I think and was told that's part of what makes the stock speakers work with the factory radio
