Congrats on a beautiful build. The wheels are incredible. Looks like real nice fabrication on the roll bar. Seats are classic!

1 3/4" x .120" 4130 Chromoly. All TIG welded. I'm pretty sure they broke their bender trying to bend it. Unfortunately, SCCA and NASA don't give a wall thickness concession for alloy tubing so I had to use .120" just like DOM. NHRA would have allowed .083" alloy but I wanted it to be legal everywhere should I ever decide to add on with the front half.

NASA CCR cage rules are based on vehicle weight but you can use 0.094" wall with 1.75" 4130.

Very nice looking project. Thanks for sharing, will be curious to see what you do with the rear suspension. Almost pulled the trigger on the 6 link. Stayed mostly stock, added composite leaf, shocks and made sure it was all tight.

Yes, the various rule books are hard to interpret for under 3,000 lbs. vs. 3,000+. I think the SVRA Group 10 cars are right on the edge of 3,000 lb. race weight depending on engine combo.

I got some more inspiration last weekend at Amelia Island Concours. They had a C3 rolling chassis which really highlighted the roll cage chassis pickup points.

Thanks Neil for the great shots ! I like the cage design, but am not too crazy bout the swiss cheese treatment. Especially on the front crossmember. I need to get my cage ordered next week. I'm thinking moly also. I have a tig welder and know how to use it !

Is it not odd the way the Chassis is painted but a lot of the Roll Cage Bars are not Welded all the way around yet ? I realize that this is an old build, as most of the welds don't look to be Tig Welded. I also realize that an Engineer might figure out where the stress is on the Bar and there might not be a reason to Weld them all the way around. But none the less it looks very odd.

The cage was just tacked on to show at Amelia Island. It will come off before they drop the birdcage and body on and then will the properly welded back on after the body is dropped on.

Correct, the joints were actually taped over and then painted. I did not get a chance to ask questions about the display, but there are definite intentions to remove the cage from the chassis after the show.

My biggest discomfort there is the swiss cheesing in the frame area surrounding the driver. Unless that car is still too damn heavy to allow ballast to placed in selected areas, I'd keep the frame intact there for an extra margin of strength surrounding the driver. The "extra" weight is down low and in the center of the car, so the handling/performance penalty is darn small.
