Send an e-mail to Lars at V8FastCars@msn.com requesting his services. Very reasonable and the BEST you can get on Q-Jets.

I'm no carb expert but that looks to be something that was pieced together. The complete air horn looks like a later model without the front vent or cover and the staked vent block and "Rebuilt in Canada" tag are not good either. Lars would be your guy on this one.

You're exactly right. The carb is a junk, hacked, commercially rebuilt carb that has been pieced together from multiple different years and makes of damaged carbs. It's not rebuildable at any reasonable cost. I'm not sure there are even any usable parts on it... good candidate for the trash can.

You can get very nice, original, unmolested used carbs for under $100. Here is a very recent one that a Forum member found:

I just had 2 Forum members find super-nice, original, unmolested 1969 carbs for $35 and $50. Good carbs are out there for those who look - and for those who avoid the commercial hack carbs...

Lars

Don't feel bad. I once bought a carb from a place called i5 automotive and it was advertised as a 69 427 Quadrajet (fleabay). The manifold vacuum tube that protrudes out the right side of the carb by the choke and connects to the A.I.R. pump didn't go anywhere. Dead end. They had actually drilled a hole in the side of a later carb and inserted a tube that went nowhere. No vacuum. It was also a later carb base that caused a huge vacuum leak if you were dumb enough to try and run it on a stock 69 Winters smile face intake. That would be me... Live and learn. I still have that carb as a reminder to never buy from people like that again.

Grant -
Even though it was non-functional, at least the carb was very pretty...

I know. It's amazing how good it still looks after 7 or 8 years of staring at it and shaking my head. My wife told me I should make an ashtray out of it but I had to remind her I quit smoking 20 years ago. It's too light for a boat anchor. Even the screws aren't worth saving...
