Default Raw gas smell

I have finally figured out when i get a raw gas smell from my 79. Seems when I fill the tank I get a strong odor. I've put on a new cap and did the sniff test and can't determine where the odor is from. Any thoughts?

Check the rubber hoses that go to the fuel sending unit.

Being 37 years old its time to replace all of the fuel hoses because they are most likely split by this time. A couple of hours or work and less than $10.

Also check and make sure your vapor canister hose is ok.

make sure the vapor canister isnt gas soaked and there is a gasket between the neck and the tank which may leak

Kneel down by the vent behind the driver side front wheel and see if the odor is strongest. If so, the vapor cannister is fuel saturated and will need rebuilt. I could not find a satisfactory replacement from any vendor, so rebuilt it myself. Must say it is the first time I bought supplies from Petco to repair a car.

I was noticed a wet spot on the right side, first sign of any leak. Changed oil today and checked fuel pump, the line to the carb is wet, I will replace it and see if that helps. The rubber lines look good, I may replace them next when I can borrow a lift from one of my buddies. Thanks for the suggestions.
