just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem....
if i go over a realllly reallly really bad bump my steering wheel will OSCILLATE violently!!!... it just started doin this a week or so ago.... at first i thought it was road condition.... but now i realize the steering valve is cuasing it.... it will oscillate left and right about 1 inch each way....
so has anyone else experienced this with the steering valve??
mine is only about 3 years old..(maybe 4....)....
easy to swap out anyways....
(already checked the whole frontend out...everything else is tight....)
i hate my steering valve lol. i just put a brand new one on and its tried to kill me twice. if you make a sharp turn or put it on the post the thing will either get stuck or actualy start to pull it self untill it cant go any further. the first time was in a parking lot and i had to give it a less then gentle jerk to the right to get it loose and then last week it did it while i was making a U turn! im replacing it again later this week because its sprung another leak and i hope Zip dosent send me another evil posessed valve :reddevil
The adjustment procedure is fairly simple and is described in the Service Manual. It is a little too lengthy to describe here but perhaps the Chilton's manual may have that adjustment. If you don't have the Service Manual, email me off line and I will scan it and send it to you. It is absolutely CRITICAL that you balance a new or suspect control valve. The steering wheel can violently lurch at the wrong time and then you wind up face to face with a truck or something.
The balancing only takes ten minutes and is an "on the car" job.

Make sure you disconnected the ram shaft from the side of the chassis, that way the wheels will not turn on you,it is also easier to adjust the valve that way.Go to the Zip web site for a full explanation on how to do it.
You can also go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Steering. There is a paper on Control Valve Replace and Balance Instructions. There are also several pages from the Chevrolet Shop Manual that are included under Control Valve Replace Pic #1 & #2.
After you correctly balance the valve, you will not believe the difference in your steering. It's like night and day. After doing mine, it was so cool to have the steering effortlessly return to center after a turn. The shake in the wheel was gone, and steering tight. Take your time and be patient during the process, and remember to turn the adjusting nut very slowly. It takes a few seconds for the valve to react to your adjustments. Good Luck
