I finished the last detail of my front suspension complete re-build late this afternoon: TR ends, all ball joints, all A arm neoprene bushings, idler arm, steering gearbox, bottoming bumpers, rag joint, plus much scraping, de-greasing and repainting. Final step was to install the hood (this was the initial first step when I started the rebuild, since the hood release would not open, so I removed the hinge bolts and added an hour to the first day's work) and then I got to check alignment with my new QuickTricks alignment tool (sounds X-rated). A quick check found everything near specs- will fine tune it tomorrow. It was now dark, so I only did a slow speed trip around the private road at my farm.....did not think it was wise to go on a test drive in the dark, out in the country after a major overhaul. Everything seems real solid. Ahh that new car feeling! RA
How much did that device cost? How easy is it to use? Where did you get it from? Can I set the rear alignment with it also?
Nice ride
Street Rat- I got the Quick Trick Pro for 17-22 inch wheels. Paid $295 plus shipping. Summit Racing and other auto suppliers have them or you can go to the Quick Trick website and order from them. The tool works pretty well, if you take your time. The magnetic level is the key to caster and camber and it calibrates to compensate for your garage floor not being level- it automatically adds or subtracts to get true level or plumb. The toe in uses the frame and steel tapes that fit into grooves on the frame. Gives reading in inches, not degrees. Only "extra" function required for toe in is to set up string lines parallel to the front and rear wheels to determine if the toe in is divided equally between the left and right wheels. You can do the same for the rear wheels. I'm satisfied- since I do not have to try to find someone who knows how to work on Corvettes. Plus- I can do alignment on my other cars. Only negative is the assembly instructions for connecting the horizontal and vertical bars are not anywhere in the instructions sent with the tool. I had to go to the website and watch some of the demo videos. After that minor delay everything else worked well. There is even a really deluxe carrying case. RA
