Default 4 Speed to Automatic

Any members done this? I have a removable crossmember so the switch would not be a big deal. I'm getting tired of missing shifts and trying to launch with a 4 speed and trying to be consistent at the track. I watched a 1970 vette at the track Friday, run a 6.50 at 103mph in the 1/8. I was shocked. Thats a low 10 second 1/4. The car was a Automatic, BigBlock with side pipes and alot of nitrous, and it still had the independent suspension. I'm usually the fastest vette at the track, but I had to hang my head low after he made a pass. I ran a 7.40 at 96mph, thats with a 1.82 60ft. My car should run low 7,s like it sits, if I could 60ft. This guy 60fts 1.50 or better. I figure with a auto and a 10'' stall and put the 150 shot pills in,I might be able to keep him in sight.

I think the 700-R4 and 200-4R are pretty must standard issue now. Everybody's doing it. My car was a muncie 4 speed originally then it had a T5 and most recently a 700-R4. Straightforward swap but there is a few things that a guy needs to know about espically if you plan on doing it yourself. Shoot me an email maybe and i'll give you a breif rundown. I have pictures of the throttle cable bracket and special made tranny mount...

Stingray 74, A overdrive would be nice, but I'm wanting to do this swap for less than $1.500. I can get a TCI Turbo 400 for $732.00 and a TCI 10'' 3,000-3,500 converter for $339.00. I'll need a shifter also. I'm not sure about the drive shaft. TCI makes a Turbo 400 with a 2.75 first gear. Just the standard 2.52 first in a 400 will be a lot better than the M21,s 2.20 first that I have now.

Brettmc, I have all the original parts. Hood,Intake,Air Cleaner, Shielding, Rally wheels, and so on. I think I could build another car. 4 speed cars are fun, but if your serious about drag racing I think a Automatic is the way to go. I'm running way to much power for a stock muncie to handle. My muncie has held up only because I'm granny shifting and letting of the nitrous between shifts. And that kills your times. I want to see what this car can really do.

:)

True, it's real hard to miss a shift with an auto. Much easier on the rear too.

If you decide to make this swap give me a shout. I have a C3 automatic pedal assembly I don't need. You might be interested in it.
